B3 at UrT 4.2!

Little update

B3 is now alive at the "NIGHTS LA" server. I've moved the server from the "test" port (27964) to the "production" port (27962), as always. Now is like this:

69.85.93.51:27962


Also, you can try to use

nights.tlws.org:27962

All are equivalent

After trying to reuse the database of the 4.1 instance, I found that my GUID was different to the old one, despite using the same qkey file.
So, as expected, I decided to use a clean database for this =(
For admins, you know, please ive me your new ID and we are ready.

Finally, if some regular read this post, I am sorry for not writing a notice about the quick move. I hope you will start to enjoy the new 4.2 instance, and probably I will start to move some other servers to this version soon.



UrT 4.2!

Well, after all this rumors about the 4.1 version dissappearing, and the player base moving slowly (really slowly TBH) to the 4.2 builds, I've started to do some little tests with the new version.

So, currently there is a new server running at the LA address but with a different port:

69.85.93.51:27964

Also, you can try to use

nights.tlws.org:27964

algiers.tlws.org:27964

All are equivalent


Of course, at this moment isn't running b3. But it has the classic rotation and so.

Please tell me how it goes :P

I was on for a while and a few players joined.  Server seems to be down right now though.
The reverend don't tell me his business, so I don't see any reason to tell him mine.

4.1 Algiers and Night are down also.

I also was in there earlier today.
Just me and the bots.
It was running fine.

Hmmm, probably a broken network route or sth.
I didn't received alerts and the UrT processes are still running like always.

And about what I've noticed (server side): This binary uses a little bit more RAM and some extra processor. Also, apparently is less happy in low RAM environments than 4.1 (it doesn't "boot", despite having enough free ram, or sth like that).



Edit: Nevermind. Indeed the servers were down due to ram issues xD

Spent a little time in there with the bots yesterday, seems to play about as same as the 4.1 server to me.

Intermittent lag spikes. Too many damned bots. Noobs that were playing offered zero challenge. Fix all that please. ;)

From my experience testing 4.2 the issues with servers having more than 16 players still exists... so I would probably cap the playerslots.

I officially hate the animations. First person view hasn't changed that much but the person you kill...omg at the marionette falling.

Haha! Indeed, I have no idea why they decided to do that kind of weird animations xD

Anyway, do you think is time to move the UrT Nights server to 4.2?

The RAM constraints are limiting me to run the 3 instances u_u   
Maybe I can, but the trick on dissappearing the lag consists on using a RAM disk to write the game logs

Even if it's not time to totally abandon 4.1 it *is* time to at least start making a move towards 4.2. You said it yourself, you can't keep 3 instances running on that box and Nights probably is the quietest of the big 3 so it makes sense.

Nevermind...

After receiving spam from supot, I just noticed that I did a mess with the databases...

The permissions at Algiers have been restored (let me know if this isn't the case).

And the new database for 4.2 is clean... again, sorry.

The 4.2 server is showing down on game tracker.

It is up in the game browser and fs server browser though.

Edit: There are 2 TLWS 4.2 servers in game tracker, so were ok.

Well, the other one was the test server. Since I didn't claimed the ownership the server will be there until they purge the list (Or until I run another one at the same port, claim it, delete it, stop it, but I am lazy)

- The server goes really down at the gametracker ranking.
- Or, the number of 4.2 servers get really big compared to the 4.1 ones.
- Or, the FS team delete the master server list

They seriously need to balance the negev.

Yeah... the update procedure is pretty lame. Not having version rollback in the client is completely weak. They need to take a clue from Mojang on how to do that correctly.

No idea tbh.
I don't use the launcher or whatever it has to update. I use the Quake3-UrT.exe file :P

Today the server was full, despite being outdated. I put a notification to remember the people to update soon. Hopefully they will
