You and coco go to school together?
It is better to step on your nade "accidently" than to let it blow up in your hand.

Ahhh so YOU'RE responsible for all the crap I had to UN teach our trainees before we could get anything productive out of them!!  ;)

(I'm retired now so I can afford to joke LOL)

Aaaaaaaah, I guess that's true... :(

However, I hope my students would be different due to the Free and Open Source culture I try to get them involved.

A few more attacks from Dec and I'll be notorious in TLWS for being the main cause of all the crap happening on the Internet ;D

LOL Hi Mate

I pretty sure you're joking and I hope you know I am joking when I make comments like that as well ;) I certainly hope no one honestly feels I'm "attacking" them.

I'm a typical first generation I/T guy, got into it from another field (telecommunications technician with specialisation in high reliability and hand prototype construction) and then worked on and off in I/T and related fields for 29 years without any formal I/T qualifications what so ever. Of course, as you'd know back then there were few quals to be had and experience was what was wanted.

The new wave (who you are helping shape) are way beyond my horizens. I was lucky, in my time you could be a generalist. It was exciting and new and there was no one around who knew better to tell you what to do :D

Now days you need to specialise and to be honest, I'd don't think I'd cut it in the modern I/T world.

It just doesn't mean I'm not going to tease these up and comming youngsters a bit ...oh all right ..  A LOT!!  :) (and their teachers lol)

Respectfully

OMG, I should have quoted the word "attacks". My apologies if some one misunderstands. My usual excuse is that English isn't my first language :-[

You are the man, Dec! It's always been exciting for me to know someone from your generation :). I think I come from the second one, where software was not meant to pass around, computer clubs formed by hobbyists ceased to exist thanks to proprietary software, intellectual property rights, with great help popularizing them from Microsoft; high level programming languages began to take over low level ones like Assembly; and new people in IT started to forget about electronic. Years after years newer IT people seem to forget and not appreciate the older ones, when deep understanding about how things work is not as necessary as before, and punchcards look like toys for nerd kids... It was so lucky for me that I have learnt about and appreciate the very first days of computing and part of my job as a lecturer is to remind students not to forget about those hard old days.

It just doesn't mean I'm not going to tease these up and comming youngsters a bit ...oh all right ..  A LOT!!  :) (and their teachers lol)

Absolutely, Dec! :D With pleasure! ;)

All the best,
Near
